Terms of Use
FPS Device Chrome extension and the Fairfield Public Schools Device Portal
Effective: September 14, 2026
These terms govern use of the FPS Device Chrome extension and the Fairfield Public Schools Device Portal (together, the "Service"), which Fairfield Public Schools ("FPS", "the District", "we") provides to manage District-issued Chromebooks.
1. Who may use the Service
The extension is installed automatically on Chromebooks enrolled in the District's Google Workspace for Education domain and is intended solely for District students, staff, and the parents/guardians of District students. It is not licensed for installation on other devices or for any other organization. The Device Portal is available to District staff with an authorized account and, for repair and payment functions, to parents/guardians of District students.
2. Relationship to District policies
Use of District devices and of the Service is subject to the District's Acceptable Use Policy, student handbook, 1:1 device agreement, and other applicable Board of Education policies. If these terms conflict with a Board policy, the Board policy controls.
3. What the Service does
The extension reports device, network, sign-in, and usage-level information to District servers as described in our Privacy Policy; prompts the user to confirm their device assignment from time to time; and provides a lookup code and link to start a repair request. The Device Portal lets authorized staff manage inventory, assignments, check-ins, and repairs, and lets guardians view and pay for repairs or purchase device insurance.
4. Your responsibilities
- Sign in to District devices only with your own District account.
- Answer device check-in prompts honestly. Confirming a device that is not yours, or denying one that is, interferes with inventory records and may be treated as a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy.
- Do not attempt to disable, remove, modify, reverse engineer, or interfere with the extension or its communication with District servers, or to access the Service's interfaces other than through the extension and portal as provided.
- Keep any credentials used with the Device Portal confidential and notify the Technology Department of any suspected unauthorized use.
- Provide accurate information when submitting repair, damage, or loss reports and when making payments.
5. Repairs, payments, and insurance
Repair charges, damage assessments, insurance coverage, and refund handling are governed by the District's 1:1 device program documents and the information presented at the time of a repair or purchase. Online payments are processed by a third-party payment processor under its own terms; the District does not store full payment card numbers. Nothing in these terms creates a guarantee that a particular repair will be completed by a particular date.
6. Availability and changes
We may update, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, including pushing updated versions of the extension to District devices automatically. We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation.
7. Intellectual property
The extension, the Device Portal, and their content are the property of Fairfield Public Schools or its licensors. You may use them only as permitted by these terms and District policy.
8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" for the District's operational use. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the District disclaims all warranties, express or implied, and shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of, or inability to use, the Service. Nothing in these terms waives any immunity or limitation available to the District under Connecticut law.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.
10. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms by posting the revised version on this page and updating the effective date. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
